Kid-Friendly Pools

What do children love more than a fabulous hotel pool? Two fabulous hotel pools.

The seasonal outdoor pool at The Grand America Hotel sits in an elegant courtyard that feels straight out of The Great Gatsby with shaded loungers, white stone tiles, and planters filled with colorful flowers. Your family can order beverage service and kid‑pleasing smoothies right from your chair.

The hotel’s pretty indoor pool is open year‑round and welcomes well-behaved children with their grown-ups. Take in views of the downtown skyline from the pool’s fourth-floor perch. The blown-glass pale green Chihuly chandeliers and sconces are a highlight of this memorable swimming space.

The Grand America Hotel’s JouJou Toy Store delights kids of all ages. This whimsical shop features a multitude of old-fashioned and modern toys. Look for a talking robot display and other interactive works of art that come to life when shoppers approach them. Then peruse a wall of massive candy machines filled with a rainbow of goodies.

Bonne Vie

When visiting The Grand America Hotel with kids, the on-site sweets and coffee shop is a dream come true. Bonne Vie offers cupcakes with queen-sized crowns of frosting, pastel-colored French macarons, and other enticing cakes and tarts. You can also order handmade gelato, chocolate truffles, and other candies. My daughter chose chocolate gelato (no surprise there), while I went for the Lemon Chiffon Torte. Both were absolutely delectable.

Family-Friendly Dining

The Grand America’s on-property dining feels fancy, fun, and family-friendly. Laurel Brasserie & Bar serves fresh, seasonal dishes in a bright, European‑inspired space where families never feel out of place. Their Sunday Brunch is a beloved culinary tradition in Salt Lake City, with live cooking stations, a whole section curated just for kids, and irresistible dessert displays. Be sure to try the slightly sweet, fluffy biscuits topped with salt crystals and served with strawberry cream cheese.

Children are welcome at Afternoon Tea, served with scones, finger sandwiches, strawberries and cream, pastries, and tea or hot chocolate. For a special treat, book the Princess Tea with appearances from Disney princesses like Cinderella and Snow White.

Grown‑ups can sneak away to the Gibson Lounge or Lobby Lounge for small plates and a quiet moment. Meanwhile, families who need downtime can always order In‑Room Dining for breakfast in bed, late‑night snacks, and everything in between delivered right to the room.

Luxury Accommodations for Families

Nothing is overlooked at this downtown Salt Lake City hotel. The fabrics are sumptuous, the flowers are real, and bathrooms are made of marble. Even the rooftops are made of copper and granite, making for an impressive view of the pool courtyard from our room’s balcony.

For all of its opulence, I always felt at ease at The Grand America Hotel even with an often boisterous, sometimes chocolate-faced child. The pricing is surprisingly reasonable, too, especially compared to other hotels of this caliber.

My daughter summed it up best: “This is the best hotel ever… because it’s so fancy and they have buffets and that candy store I love.” Book your stay at The Grand America Hotel to experience it yourself.

  1. What a fabulous looking hotel! I’m pretty sure that my 9 year old would love having a mother/daughter spa treatment too. In fact, our daughters sound a fair bit alike – wherever we have just stayed, eaten or whatever activity we have just finished is always “the best ever”!!

  2. Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah looks like a five star hotel. The pool area and the bed room so amazing and very comfortable! When I go to Utah, I’ll check this hotel out.
